12/6/2023 0 Comments Tom brady tuck rule game![]() I admit that when I watched this unfold, I thought there was zero chance the replay would overturn the call of a fumble. But replay review overturned the call, invoking the "Tuck Rule" to make it an incomplete pass, which saved the Patriot's season. Of course, this game pivoted on the famous Tuck Rule play, where QB Tom Brady, desperately trying to get the Patriots in to position to score and tie or win the game at the end, was hit by blitzing CB Charles Woodson, who seemed to knock the ball loose for a game-clinching fumble recover for the Raiders. I didn't really know any of the Patriots. I knew more Raiders, who still featured end-of-career Hall of Famers Tim Brown and Jerry Rice. The snow indeed came down, and I hadn't seen much of either team. IIRC, there was only one turnover in the game, pretty remarkable given the conditions.Īs someone without a dog in the hunt, I found the game was magical to watch. ![]() The Patriots were gaining more yards, but that seemed to me because they were behind, and in the snow points were hard to come by, so they were always kind of flailing away trying to come back, whereas the Raiders were just prudently milking the clock. But the Raiders went up early and were in control of the game almost the whole way. The Patriots were one of the top seeds, and had a "bye" the previous week, whereas the Raiders were a lesser seed and had won a wild-card game over the Jets the previous week to advance. And IIRC, the weather at the Patriots stadium was under freezing and the snow was coming down during the game, making it snowier and more magical as the game progressed.Īs I watched, I was surprised that the Raiders looked like the stronger team. I remember watching this game, it was going to be fun because I love watching games played in the snow, that's real football to me. Yes, it was 20 years ago today, Januthat the famous, or infamous, Tuck Rule Game was played between the New England Patriots and the Oakland Raiders in Foxboro Massachusetts.
